Wheel chains must be carried at all times and fitted where directed. While it is rare for chains to be fitted on the Mt St Gwinear Road it IS a LEGAL REQUIREMENT that you have chains. Also, please note that some insurance companies will void an insurance claim if you have an vehicle accident in the snow and your didn't have chains. Chains can be hired locally at the Erica Ski Hire [5165 3353 or www.ericaskihire.com.au] and the Rawson MiniMart (5165 3311). It is strongly advised that if you have a vehicle with low-profile tyres or a large 4WD it will pay to check first if chains are available for your car.
